Kanev - Ukraine

Founded in the 11th century by Kyivan Prince Yaroslav the Wise, Kanev (also Kaniv) is a historic, culturally rich city of 35,000 located on the Dnieper River about 120 km south of the capitol of Kiev. Taras Shevchenko, the famous poet laureate of Ukraine, is buried on a hill overlooking the Dnieper in Kaniv and the city houses a memorial museum dedicated to him. Other sites include the Heorhiivskyi (Uspenskyi) Cathedral.
