Venlo - Netherlands

Venlo is a city in the province of Limburg in the south of the Netherlands, next to the German border. It was a trade post in the 9th century and became one of the more important ones in the Meuse-Rhine area, receiving city rights in 1343. It became a member of the Hanseatic League in 1375. Because of its strategic importance, the city of Venlo was besieged several times. Sights include the City Hall (the 'Stadhuis') and the 'Römer' house. There is also the Limburgs Museum and the Museum Van Bommel – Van Dam, an art museum.
