Metlakatla - USA, Alaska

Metlakatla is Tsimshian Indian village located on Annette Island close to the entrance to Misty Fjords. It was founded as a model village by the Anglican missionary William Duncan in 1887 to house his Indian converts and no white men were allowed on the island. However the Harriman Expedition stopped there in 1899 but were more interested in the birds, flowers and trees of the island. Annette Island remains a federal Indian Reservation and you can visit the cottage in which William Duncan lived, now the Duncan Museum, and a replica of the original church, destroyed by fire in 1948. The Tsimshian community may also greet you with a dance performance at their tribal long house. The following 4 cruises call at Metlakatla.
