Volendam - Netherlands
The town of Volendam is located some 11 miles (18 km) northeast of Amsterdam lost its fishing industry when the Zuiderzee was cut off from the North Sea. It has a boat-filled harbour, tiny streets and traditional houses and is now predominantly a tourist town with souvenir shops, boutiques, gift shops and restaurants. During tourist season the residents enhance this effect by dressing in traditional regional costumes and a diamond cutter and clog maker demonstrate their craft. From here you can also visit the world-renowned Keukenhof Gardens, ablaze in the Spring with flowering bulbs. The following 29 cruises call at Volendam.
