Willis Islands - Qld - Australia
The Willis Group of islands lies outside the Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea off Townsville on the Queensland coast. Ringed by a brilliant white sand beach just 2km (0.7 miles) long, Willis Islet is located in the Coral Sea Territories and is set amongst magnificent coral bomboras. Your time at Willis can be spent exploring ashore with our expedition leaders, relaxing on the beach and swimming in the clear aquamarine sea, or snorkelling. Willis is home to a plethora of wildlife, notably thousands of seabirds. These migratory birds nest on the islet and if you step off the tracks you'll need to tread carefully to avoid their eggs. The islet is also home to a maritime weather observation station which was established over 80 years ago by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
