Inland Sea - Japan
The Inland Sea, Japan's most beautiful body of water is not landlocked - it is in fact a strait separating Shikou Island from Honshu and Kyushu. Designated a national park, the Inland Sea is an area of great natural beauty with its emerald green waters dotted with over 3000 pine studded islands of which around 750 are inhabited. The remote fishing villages on these islands have wooden houses with black ceramic tiled roofs. Among the most visited are Awaji, the largest island, Setoda, Omi and Shodo.
