Komodo Island - Indonesia

Indonesia's isolated Komodo Island is a natural wonder of tropical savanna and scrubland, home to the famed pre-historic Komodo dragon. Komodo National Park is the only place on earth that they can be found in the wild. It is believed that during the Jurassic era, these carnivores became extinct everywhere but on Komodo Island. These reptiles are known for their keen sense of smell, their ability to run quickly for short distances and their strength to swim against the current. They protect themselves from the heat and rain by digging burrows along the banks of dry rivers. They are today the largest reptiles on earth, growing as long as 10 feet and weighing as much as 300 lbs. There are more than 30 cruises calling at this port.
