Budapest - Hungary
Budapest is the Hungarian capital which spans the River Danube for eight miles and is connected by seven bridges. It consists of the old city Buda (right bank) and the more modern city of Pest (left bank). On a walking tour of the city you can see St. Matthias church and Gellert Hill with its' citadel and liberation movement or go to the Kiskunlachaza in the Puszta to see a performance by the Hungarian horses. Outside Budapest you can visit Godollo, a small Baroque town known as the ‘Hungarian Versailles'. Castle Godollo was built in the 1740's and was the favoured home of Sissy, the wife of Emperor Franz Josef, and in recent years the mansion has been restored to its former glory. The city is the political, administrative, industrial, and commercial centre of Hungary. The site has been continuously settled since prehistoric times and is now the home of about one-fifth of the country's population. There are more than 30 cruises calling at this port.
