Tournus - France
Tournos is a town on the banks of the river Saône, entered through a gateway with a medieval tower to each side (once the entrance to a monastery compound). The Cloister of St.Philibert dominates the town skyline and is one of the oldest Romanesque buildings in Burgundy, built around 900 AD. Tournos has narrow streets with the inward looking feel of a Mediterranean town. Tournos belies a prosperous past when commercial vessels swarmed the quayside. Today the quays are quiet and modern prosperity is based in agriculture and tourism. From here you can visit the town of Beaune. There are more than 30 cruises calling at this port.
