Tanlay - France
The small village of Tanlay is located in Burgundy on the Canal de Bourgogne. Here you will find the renaissance Chateau of Tanlay, one of the finest in Burgundy. It was built in the 15th and 16th centuries and has a luxurious interior, with impressive wall paintings and frescoes. Built in white limestone and with attractive slate roofs, there is a series of moats, arcades and iron grills, all surrounded by a park. It is actually a combination of the earlier chateau built upon by the second hence the moats and the circular towers, which date from the original castle. Washhouses (les lavoirs) were built in 1821 in the castle moat. Tanlay is one of the ports from which you can visit the vineyards and town of Chablis, dating back to Roman times.
